hi all,

running fox pro 9 .... building a report

1.need to have a label rotated 45 degr (designer describes it as 325 degr)

report designer has such option on the advanced tab
BUT no matter what I do it seems to just ignore me and label stays 180 degr
simple label with text

2. when bringing .bmp file and trying to set it as transparent --> looks transparent in the designer but yet always opaque when running. how to set .bmp transparent ??
Rotation also doesn't seem to work

:(

Maybe silly questions but
please advise as i tried different things to no avail

Big Thanks in advance

For your first problem, make sure you have SET REPORTENGINE 90.

Fantik,

To answer your second question:

By default, the white areas within the BMP will be treated as transparent. If you have control over the content of the image, just change the colour of the area that you want to be transparent to white.

It's also possible to specify a different transparent area by means of a MSK file, but that's not usually necessary.

Another option is to convert the BMP to a GIF, in which case the built-in transparency will be respected.

When changing an image in the designer, it's a good idea to do CLEAR RESOURCES from the command window, to clear out any cached copies of the image.

Re your first question: I'm trying to reproduce this behaviour, but can't see how to rotate a label on a report. Where is the "advanced" tab you mentioned? Are you sure you're not talking about a label of form?

Mike

huge sorry for not coming back to my thread sooner ...
thanks for your answers

i did misled you -- we're running fox9 yet report behavior - 8

there is no way for now to switch to report behavior 9 (about 120 reports done in 8 and once switched to 9 --> lots of issues including even format of the field not to mention it is slower??)

so given -- i am forced to deal with report behavior 8.
speaking from my testing :
1.no way to rotate anything (labels, pictures, text boxes etc.)
*-- to Mike : on any picture you can go to Properties - Advanced -- and rotate (works only in reports 9)
2.transparency works if you create label yourself , i cannot make transparent any given graphic in 8
*-- to Mike : tried gif with transparent white yet covers text boxes as it's opaque

i guess I'll have to live with this limitation but will continue testing

cheers

Fantik,

You said:

on any picture you can go to Properties - Advanced -- and rotate (works only in reports 9).

But your original question was about the rotating of labels, not of pictures. Please clarify what you are trying to achieve.

As far as transparency is concerned, you also need to set the Backstyle to transparent (select the picture, then Format / Backstyle / Transparent). Doing that, plus the other points I suggested, has always worked for me.

Mike

Mike,

I am trying anything that could possibly work for me
i needed to put word "modified" rotated 325 degr
therefor tried pictures, labels and text boxes
so far my testing confirms that rotation doesn't work in report designer 8 (but does in 9)
as of transparency -- i created gif in Paint as you suggested
on pure white and made sure of transparency under Format/Backstyle/Transparent but still no go, what works for me is label (good enough! i don't care for a picture)

but, i guess i will have to live without rotation in 8

great thanks for your cooperation
