Help!!

My Agency purchase a RS6000 7026-B80 to replace 7015. I don't have a concern about all the other VGs but rootvg I am not sure how to handle this. I was going to
back it using ADSM and restore it to the new RS6000 but I don'y want it to overlay
the files that already there. Both Risc box has aix v4.3.3. The new box is up and running with a new 3581 tape attached to it.

What files do I need from Rootvg? we have all our users define on the old box is there a files I can copy from old to new that have all users or do I have define all users on the new box.

old system... Rootvg is on scsi drive, all other VGs are on 7133 disk array.

Thanks for you help...
Any help you could give me on how to handle rootvg would be appreciate.

Honestly, I recommend you clone the system. You will need files from:

/etc
/etc/security
/home
...

The list goes on. I recommend that you get your AIX 4.3.3. CD's, put them in the B80, take a mksysb of the 7015, and do a fresh install of the B80, and choose "Install from a System Backup". This will configure the new B80 with the necessary files, and import all of your user information from the original system.

Bill.

If you are just concerned with the users...not too much with printers or terminals and stuff...or the os...you can look at the following
migrating users

and

restore of 128 port settings from mksysb

Migrating printers to another machine

Here are the instructions I received from IBM. NOTE: Be advised that IBM claims they do not support this through IBM.

Migrating Print Queues:
1. copy the /etc/qconfig (make a copy of the original before)
2. Copy the following files:
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/custom files
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/dev files
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/ddi files
3. change the permissions on the copied files to 664 chmod 664 filename
4. redigest the queue's
enq -d
5. run the chvirprt command on each queue
chvirprt -q -d
Note; If you have a lot of queues, the best thing is to create a short script to do this for you. I grab the queue name and device name by running lsallq -c and saving it to a file.
6. cycle the printer subsystem
stopsrc -cg spooler
startsrc -g spooler

Make sure you have a mksysb of the new system before you start playing...
