Is it a good idea to keep /home in your rootvg or somewhere else? Currently I have it specified in rootvg and there are some files. Is it possible for me to put this in a different VG and put the files there?

Put /home in another vg and then you will have to deal with it at upgrade time.

Its fairly straight forward.

1. Backup your system using mksysb & savevg
2. Backup your filesystem using tar/cpio
3. Unmount the /home filesystem (may have to be at single user)
4. Remove /home filesystem
5. Create /home filesystem in new vg
6. Mount /home
7. Restore /home

If you need the commands to do each step let me know

Khz: What do you mean, I have to deal it with upgrade time?

Mrn: THANKS!!!!

But my question was...what is a good practice: put /home in rootvg or seperate vg?

I suppose it depend on why you need to have /home on a different vg

Yes it is a good idea to keep your home directory / file system in rootvg.
Yes it is possible to move it to another vg. See above.
It will just create more admin tasks if you move it.
If you can be sure of doing the extra admin involved in backing up your home directory / filesysten, then by all means move it but you are more likely to backup rootvg on a regular basis so why make things harder.

the only reason I have had to do to satisfy a HAMCP config that needed /home on a common disk(ssa twin tailed) so the /home went with HACMP resource
