Root password retrieval

I am running HPUX 11.0 and need to find the root password. Is there a file out there that can be edited that allow me to reclaim the lost root password. Re-booting the system is not an option on this box. Thanks for your help !

Sorry, I don't think there is any way you can "reclaim" a lost root password without booting the box into single-user mode.

If you're not logged in anywhere with root, there's no other way than rebooting to single user mode. If the system is configured as a Trusted System and you are logged in somewhere you can run the following command which will clear root's password :

/usr/lbin/modprpw -w "" root
