root mail staying local

I have a sendmail server and postmaster mail is going to the main mail server and not staying local to the machine that is running sendmail. How can I keep root mail delivery to /var/mail/root.

Check your aliases file. The config below should work.

MAILER-DAEMON:  postmaster
postmaster:     root

I'm sorry I forgot to say that the aliases file already indicates that.
