I have way to much root email. Most of it is the following:

Message from root on ax02 (UNKNOWN) [Tue Jan 25 15:22:24 EDT 2005]
Message from queueing system:
Job number 298 (116298) has been deleted from the queue.

How can I stop the queue from sending emails to root?

Getting this too:

Message from queueing system:
Job number 564514 has been deleted from the queue.

Why does the print queue throw all these messages? Cant they be suppressed?

I've tried finding an answer to this a few time and never had any luck.

Maybe this isn't what you're doing...but I was... so when scripting automatic print queue restarts, I've learned it's best to see if the queue returns "Error" or "errno" from an lpstat, and if it does.... don't bother trying to restart it.

If you're getting this regularly, you might consider getting rid of the bad queues also. I know, it can be a lot of work, but might save some emails.

Hope this helps

I have given up. No one has an answer for this.
My kingdom for an answer!

I have decided to write a script that empties root mail daily or maybe weekly.
Geez, I have resorted to Microsoft techniques. Bandaid solution!
