I'm building some servers with the minimum required to run my particular application. As it requires a graphic internet browser and development tools I've chosen no packages except
[ul]
[li]X Windows - Firstboot[/li]
[li]Graphical Internet - Firefox[/li]
[li]Development tools - default selection[/li]
[/ul]
However, this build, unlike the standard build, does not allow root logins from the console. How do I enable this?

Thanks

Which "RedHat" version?
Which console prevents root login? Terminal screen, text login at keyboard, GUI login at keyboard, ssh command line??

[li]RedHat EL 4.6[/li]
[li]Gui login at keyboard[/li]

Thanks

To get logged in so you can edit that file, do a Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to a text virtual terminal. That will let you in. Then go edit the KDE config file (kdmrc) mentioned in the link above.

Probably would have a KDE terminal application on the desktop into which you can issue "su -" to become root in the terminal session.. Another side of the same coin.

Thanks for your help, both of you.
