Hey,
This is kinda weird, but I'm trying to shutdown of one of the UNIX station consoles as root, but it says I don't have permission to execute shutdown. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks
Mike

ok....

Have a, close, look at the shutdown script you're finding

Is it in the right place? (are you picking up a script someone has sneaked in)

What's the date of the script? (If it's a recent date it's been modified, or something.)

Have a look in the system log. Look for errors, warnings, unexpected root login events.

I agree w/Mike Lacey. Sounds like someone stuck another "shutdown" in your path that is being found first. Try typing

# which shutdown

and see what comes back. To shut the system down in the mean time, use the absolute path of /usr/sbin/shutdown for 11.X servers.
