I've been having a problem recently on my Suse 8.2 machine whereby I can log in as a normal user with no problems, but if I log in as root, I get logged off automatically as soon as the login sequence has completed and the KDE desktop has appeared. I can't imagine what would be causing this; the only programs that would be starting up automatically for the root user would be Konqueror and a Konsole shell.

Can anybody give me any indication what might be causing this problem? I'm new to Linux.

Thanks.

Solved!

I took a chance and deleted all the application config files in /root/.kde/share/config/session , and it's working now.

Thanks.
