This hapenned after the boot disk was replaced. As the boot disk was mirrored using Veritas the system was not brought down.

As this is a production box a reboot is not immediately possible.

Any suggestions ?

I have had problems like that with Veritas. Veritas wrote the VTOC incorrectly and I had a host of strange problems.

Over the weekend I was able to work on this box and it turned out someone had dumped files in a mount point when the filesystem was unmounted. Probably hapenned when we had a disk failure.

So it turned out the root filesystem was actually full and being reported correctly.

Thanks for getting back to us with the solution - it's nice not to leave threads dangling!

I want to be good, is that not enough?
