---> I am receiving this error message from one of our backup devices, it is an Exabyte EZ17-LVD. The error message is:
AE0059 Root Directory (\\\) is invalid.
---> And that is all I get from the error message. I can restore other things from that tape, but this one session is giving me a headache. It is pretty critical stuff that needs to be restored, and it is not on any other tape, but that is beside the point. I have checked support.cai.com but they never have support on AExxxxx errors only the EC code that follows but there was none on the activity log. Anyway please help if anyone has seen this before.
Thanks,
-->mikeyc

I have been getting this type of errore also. Some sessions can be restore and other will not. If I try to restore using the client agent I get the AE0059 error, if I try by just using a network or local path I get a Dr. Watson with an ACCESS VIOLATION , asrunjob.exe and a dbept10.log that mentions the msvcrt.dll file. ???

I'm running AS2000 with SP4 on NT4 SP6a.

Does anyone know what would cause this to happen?

Thanks

There were some patches released for AS2000 sp4 qo19353 and qo19352.

Also, MikeyC. That error occurs when you backed something up with a NetWare push agent and are trying to restore to NT. Long file names would be an issue as well as security. Try restoring to a NEtWare server which has a push agent installed.

It is isn't NetWare and my hunch is wrong, then let me know :p

We are running a Microsoft only Network, With NT4 Servers and clients (NT4, 2000 and XP). The qo19352 does not seem to aply to our configuration but I tried it anyway And it didn't help. So far the 2 clients I've tested are not using the client agent. I know the next logical step would be to install the client agent but why would some sessions work and others not on the same client.

I am having this same issue. I Am Trying to restore backups from Netware to my W2k server. It doesn't want to work at all. It's as if the 2 client agents are not compatible with each other in any way. I've had it with AS2k but unless anyone can give a solution to this issue, I will have to build a small Netware box just for old restores. You see, corporate has dictated a Microsoft only policy and we are migrating off of Netware (unfortunately). One other thing is interesting. I tried to restore to my local AS2k server and everything seemed to restore just fine. I was even able to open a PDF file. However, all other files were corrupted and unreadable.

I'm looking for new backup software. Any suggestions?

Fred.
