both NT4 & Win2K will do...
and yes, PcAnywhere runs pretty good on 56K modem...

For a small biz - i'd use NT4.0 instead of 2000. You'd waste the features in 2000, and NT4.0 is easier to manage.

PCAnywhere will definitely work, but it's a dog over 56K..its better than nothing though.

Definitely NT4, unless you want to use 2000 Server's integrated Terminal Server features. If you implement these you can get a remote desktop, I don't know how well it would work over 56K though, it's more tailored to "internal" networks. But you could do this with NT4 Terminal Server Edition too. But MS don't sell this any more as far as I know.

As to whether implementing client/server to make your users more intelligent. Software can do many things, but not that. Some gentle persuasion along the lines of "I can't help you, unless you help me" may be in order.

"IF" is not a word it's a way of life

Win2K Terminal Services also run fine on 56K... this might be a good point to go for Win2K
Believe me, managing a small Win2K network is not harder than a handling NT4 network... Peter Van Eeckhoutte

I would go with 2k because in future you have to migrate to win2k.. You might well go with 2k it has very good features than NT.. Terminal server is very easy to configure on 2k, infact you could login from anywhere using browser or Terminal CLient.
