OK, here is both a simple and difficult question. For someone who has been asked to begin maintaining a fully developed DirectX (7.0 right now) C++ application, where do I start? (It appears to be mostly 2D graphics, animation and some sound.)

Is anyone aware of any good Training available, Books or other Resources (other than what's on MSDN). I've got a pretty good background in programming (36+ years), C/C++ (16+ years on and off), but no background in Graphics.

What I've read so far is pretty intimidating (basically I'm lost), and I have only minimal access to the authors of the code - they are too busy doing newer, bigger and better things to be bothered!

TIA
Rick

rgbean - take a look at for some basic DirectX tutorials - hopefully enough to clear some of the cobwebs.

I'm also given to understand that the SDK documentation (downloadable) should also be pretty good.

Thanks Craftor, it indeed looks like a good place to start.
