Is there ANY sure-fire way of deleting all internet history from my computer? I have downloaded Tracks Eraser and deleted my internet history that way; is that the only thing I need to do? Can that history still be retrieved? Are the $30 programs that are sold at Best Buy, etc. adequate?

Thank you,

Most likely, those programs do what they say they do.
BUT, it has been my experience, that if someone REALLY wanted to nail someone for something, there isnt a program in the universe that is going to hide everything, not even the great format.exe program.

I think Bill Gates has the right idea. He retires his personal hard drives by having them ground up into very fine powder.

It is true inikis that formatting will not erase the information at all. A simple utility called unerase will easily unformat any disk. However, they do make programs that will erase everything. One that I know of is called BCWipe. We use it in the military to remove sensitive materials from our classified hard drives. The program writes 1's and 0's to the drive completely destroying what is there. Of course we run it 7-9 times over. The program doesn't just have to erase the entire disk, it can also be used to only erase the recycle bin, swap files, etc. You can try it for 30 days here:

But be warned, once you erase it with this, there is NO data recovery system in the world that can retrive it.

Thank you guys very much for the info. I will definitely tryout the BCWipe program. Is there a simple command to "wipe out internet history" or do I need to go into each area individually? Thanks again.

I have mainly used it to erase the entire HDD. I haven't really done individual files. What little experience I have had, is that what ever you delete, gets erased completely. That goes for all files and not just the history folder. So once you delete the files in the history folder, you can run the program and it will completely erase them.

Would this work - use a virtual disk? If you're using Win98, ramdrive.sys would create a virtual disk. Or, use a hardware device like USB memory. Redirect your temporary cache to it, then delete it when you are done.

hi JLesPaul59,
this will kinda sound dumb...but if you want you can try this one out too...on the internet options go to the general tab...there you can see there the clear history button...simple and fast...affordable too...hehehe...
