ROM Upgrade

Hi,
I want to perform a ROM upgrade and I am a littled worried, that I will loose all my programs and settings. I already performed a complete backup and a backup of single data files (contacts, registry, applications, othr databases). I know that if I perform a ROM upgrade that all of my data will be, but can I restore my backups? I assume contacts shouldn't be a problem, but what about applications and other databases?
Any experiance?
