I have a Rolm 9751 where the auto config backup won't run. I can do a full CNFG backup. Listing 'status fs all' once I saw build config done, the diskette drive ran for a few seconds, but that was it. Usually the command results in 'status not found'. The diskette was formatted. The system does the scheduled midnight restart. At 8:30am I set the auto backup for 9am, never ran. I wonder what could be prohibitting the process?

It sounds like you don't have these two volumes defined on your HD
CNFG_HD_VOL.BU 19-10-14 23:01 19-10-14 23:01
28050 29265
Size = 2 < 1 >

COPY_BACKUP.TEMP 31-05-12 12:19 31-05-12 12:19
29274 30489
Size = 2 < 1 >
The SIZE must equal the size of the CNFG VOL, then place a formatted floppy in the drive

Those volumes are on the hard drive. The COPY_BACKUP.TEMP file is created during a full CNFG backup. The diskette was formatted.

We had the local tech put in a different diskette from an old voicemail system - formatted it and for some reason the backup worked.
I'd say maybe it was the quality of the original diskette - but it was fine for a full backup. I wonder now - was there something about the capacity, 720k vs. 1.44 meg? For some reason that came to mind.

Sometimes it is best to format disks on the drive from which you intend to use them most. I have noticed in the past there seems to be variations in the accuracy of the bulk formatting between brands, or a slight misalignment of the head on your disk drive that can affect how well it writes to the disk.

Hi,
Yes I agree, it is always best, especially on older equipment to format disks on the drive that they are to be used on.

I always format diskettes in the PBX. I've used diskettes for auto backups purchased from Staples, which of course are the higher density, they have worked. Maybe it depends on the vintage of the diskette drives. Off hand I don't know what the capacity is of the diskette is that enabled the successful auto backup, it's not like we could just put it into a pc and look anymore.

You can still buy USB disk drives :eek:)

If you are talking 3.5" disks, if they have the HD logo on them they are 1.44MB. If not they are probably 720KB. If you are talking 5.25" I think those were 360KB and 1.2MB - can you still even buy those? I assume you're not talking 8" - I KNOW you can't buy those anymore! Our old CBX 8000 used those big honking floppies. I'm not sure how well it would work to format the 1.44MB disks as 720KB, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I would question the stability of the formatting, but I'm sure there is probably someone on here that has been doing it for years!

forgot to ask what Model is the 9751, Model40 and 50 needs only 1 disk. The only difference is that the Model 50 Compress the data to fit on one disk. Model 70 you need to do a CNFG BACUP which could require up to 7 disks

The Mod 10 has been successfully doing backups with a formatted AVT voicemail diskette. The auto backup of course wasn't available on the Mod 70. In my notes I found 3 LDUs = approx. 1 meg. I wonder if companies like Maxell, Verbatim still make diskettes.
