Dear All,

I have been trying to roll a db forward using *.arc logs.
So far I have created a db with archiving and taken a cold backup. I then added tables with data to create *.arc files.
I then stopped the db and replaced it with the orginal cold backup files. Started the db in mount only mode using:-
-startup mount;
I then tried to roll the db forward with the *.arc logs generated before, using this command.
-recover database
It tells me that no media recovery is required. However the v$log_history table still shows that the *.arc logs have not been applied.

Can anyone help, can it be done?

Thanks in advance you guys!

Answering my own question here!!!

Okay, what I did was nearly right, but the command to roll forward is:-
-recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
-AUTO
-alter database open resetlogs;

This recover command will look in the archive directory and apply all archive logs outstanding.

Thanks me!

Paul
