Roll Back to VLDB Database

I have two backup servers, the old one has been converted to run a SQL database. The new one hasn't (yet).

I am going to run setupSQL.exe on the new server and point it to the old server so that the database for each resides on the same box. After searching the forum I believe that in doing this it will somehow combine with the current asdb to provide me with two separate instances, one for each server. (how does this work?!)

I was going to test this by installing ArcServe on a dummy box and running setupSQL - pointing it to the dummy SQLserver, and see whether this test database is overwritten.

My question is this, once I convert the VLDB database to SQL, is there a way of rolling it back, incase it fails?

in my few journeys through \program files\ca\brightstor\ i think i saw somethign called DBtoVLDB (.exe? .bat?). That might be something to check out. ive never used it before... no idea what it may do.

if you run the setupsql utility you just direct ARCserve to the SQL server that has already running an ASDB (the name of the ARCserve database residing on SQL). If available, the utility will ask you if you want to overwrite the existing ASDB. If you say no, then both servers are sharing the same database. When you run the dbtosql utility the existing VLDB data will be converted to the SQL database (backup the existing ASDB before you do this in case the conversion should go wrong.
If you want to go backup you have to run another utility called BCONGFIG.EXE. In here you can the System account, the caroot security and the database. Just selct the database part and ARCserve will return to VLDB. There is no utilty for converting the data from ASDB to VLDB as far as I know.

hope I'm clear
