Rogue DHCP Servers

I provide Internet access in hotels/condos. Basically we have a server that acts as a firewall out and each unit is wired back to a switch. I have two issues I am trying to solve.

1. Customers come in occasionally with wireless routers. Generally these are configured to offer DHCP addresses so I have units in the vicinity who grab an address off this router rather than my server. We are primarily running 3Com SS34400s. The trafficManagement option on 3Com's website doesn't seem to be what I need to proactively handle the problem. I also tried VLANs but I have to VLAN each port therefore I run into a problem on my 2nd tier switch because of the 85 vlan limitation.

2. I would like to provide security to customers from other residents. I also saw vlan as the answer to this problem but as I said the 85 vlan limit is a problem.

Additional details: Server/Gateway connects to port 48 on switch 1/Port 47 on switch 1 connects to port 48 on switch 2/port 47 on switch 2 connects to port 48 on switch 3 etc. I set up vlan 101 - 147 on switch 3 but upon creating vlans 201-246 on switch 2 I can't create enough vlans to pass traffic from switch 3 up through the backbone.

Confused yet? If there is another way to do this I would appreciate tips or if there is another product (reasonably priced) that will help me with this problem I would also appreciate a nudge in that direction.

Thanks

I have noticed that happening as well. For some reason my clients we pulling from the Wireless router.

The SIMPLE fix for me was to put a crossover cable to the wan port on the Wireless router.. haven't seen it since.

We don't want to have to do anything other than provide a port inside the unit. Customer self provisioning is a wonderful thing! We decided to give the Dell 3000 series switches a try. Half the cost of the 3Com 4400, supposedly benchmarks with better performance, and supports 256 vlans. Ordering some next week.
