Roaming profiles with applications settings

I recently created a test domain with a Windows 2003 Ent. Server as a DC. All roaming profiles work fine (desktop settings, etc.), with one exception. Applications settings that are modified on a laptop while away from the domain, (such as those associated with Palm pilots)appear to be reset everytime the workstation makes a connection to the domain. Any idea what's up? Why are the application settings that are being cached on the laptop not being written to the roaming profile on the DC?
