Hi guys,

I was mucking about with setting up roaming profiles on our network yesterday, and started with my own (should have, with hindsight, created a test profile!)

anyway, i seem to have managed to wipe all my documents!!!

our network is set up as such that all users docs are stored in location ie \\z:\%username%, z being a mapped location created on login

well i was as i say mucking about with roaming profiles and put this location in as the profile path,

went to access a document today and the files that i had stored in 'my documents' are no longer there and seem to have been replaced with the docs that had been in the local profile of my pc.

Any ideas on where these docs would have gone, or are they gone for good??

On top of all this my backup played up and so i don't have a recent enough copy of the data.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

If you change your home profile location then when you log off a workstation it copies the contents of your entire User directory (from C:\Documents and Settings) with the exception of the hidden Local Settings directory.

It shouldn't have deleted anything that was already in that location, your documents should just appear alongside your profile files and folders.

yeah well that's what i'd have thought, but it defo got rid of the files. i forgot i'd taken a backup onto a portable harddrive last week so i had a relatively recent copy that i've managed to use now so not such a big issue.......
