Hi,

The Boss logged on to another machine today, but his profile didn't download.

The desktop is empty and went through the usual set up for new users when outlook was opened, word , excel etc..

What could be stopping the roaming profile from downloading to this specific machine?

Have you ever copied a good working profile out to your profiles share? Can you confirm that there's an actual profile out on the server ready to use? And how have you put the profile out there? Did you copy it manually, or did you use the profile tool on the client to do it? Doing the latter will ensure that the right permissions will be set for that user.

? no , I thought you just give the path in AD Users Profile section and the server does the rest.

Everyone else works fine doing that.

Should I delete his folder on the server and then log on via his actuall machine to ensure the new profile coppies over?

Or is there a better way to do this.

So there IS a profile on the server, and it's been updated when he logged on to other workstations? In that case, you shouldn't need to do what I described.

Also, Vista and XP profiles aren't compatible, but I figure you know that already.

You've lost me?

What do I need to do to resolve this problem?

N.B. All Machines are XP Pro SP3

When you look on the server, in the folder path you used for the profile, do you see an actual profile with all the normal profile folders in it? If so, great. There's a profile. If not, then the method I described above should be used to copy a profile there. Is it possible that in the past this guy wasn't really using a roaming profile? If there's nothing in the server-based profile path, then he wasn't using a roaming profile.

By default I cannot see what's in the profile folders , they are locked down to user access only.

I get access denied, even when logged on as administrator, is this not normal?

Try looking at your backed up data to see what's in that directory. If you are using native SBS Backup, go into the Restore tab of NTBackup and browse to that directory.
