Does anyone know a way to access RM Cobol data without having the source code for record layouts ?? We have some old software and data and need to create reports that are not part of the original system. The ideal would be to convert to ascii, access or dbase.

Thanks

Mark

Mark,
You would need to hexdump the files and try to determine from the dump the field lengths and data definitions. RM Cobol does provide for index file information thru supplied utilities so it is possible to find the key sizes and positions. We have had to do the same thing in the past and have matched up the dumps to existing reports to try to determine how and where the data is defined. You can email me if you need clarification. Hope this helps.
