RJ31x convert to RJ48x Jack The difference between an RJ48x Jack and an RJ31x Jack.

I just jump pin 8 to 2 on my RJ31x Jacks, when I run out of RJ48x jacks and I have extra RJ31x Jacks with me, since RJ48x jacks short 1 and 4 and 2 and 5, and RJ31x Jacks Short 1 and 4 and 5 and 8, by running a jumper wire to post 2 and then to post 8 you have essentially converted it to a RJ48x Jack for shorting purposes, and now 2 and 5 will short when you remove your patch cable on your RJ31x Jack. Anyone see a flaw in that concept?
 
Here is a discussion on it from a while back looks like some say yes and others say no.

If it was me I would remove the jumper from pin 8 though.
