RIS to Deploy Windows XP

I am using RIS to deploy Windows XP to a few ne machines. These are right out of the box. The new machine will not join the domain the first time around. I have to connect to a workgroup and manually add it to the domain. If I take that machine again and RIS it, it will join the machine just fine from here on out.

What is the problem with it not wanting to join the domain the first time around? The machine initally appears in AD during the RIS process and I have it stop at the prompt for computer name duing the install process of XP. It stops and hangs at the point when trying to join the domain and only lets me proceed by joining a workgroup.

Any info is appreciated.
