Hey all,

I'm trying to get RIS installed on a server here at work and it's not showing up as an installable option. I've tried checking on a couple of servers and it's just not there. Is there something else that needs to be installed before RIS will become an installable option? I'm running Window 2003 R2 SP2.

Thanks,

Joe B

No...it should be available to you under Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

FWIW I just checked and none of my 2k3 servers have RIS listed as an install option. What's up with that?

Thanks,

Joe B

Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components - Windows Installation Services. Should be there.

pqaliardo,

Ok, i DO have Windows Deployment Services. I'll give that a shot later today and see if I can get it to work.

Thanks,

Joe B.

Ok, I finally figured it out. For some reason the server didn't want the share to be three folders deep. I set it up with a folder just under root (F:\RemInst instead of F:\Shares\Megatech\RemInst)and it works fine now. For what it's worth, before I redid the WDS folder I was getting the following error in App Log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: 5/12/2008
Time: 2:47:07 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SRV-ServerName
Description:
The Windows Deployment Services (WDS) Server service terminated with service-specific error 3238332162 (0xC1050702).

When I Googled that error I kept reading about how the server had been moved in AD. It hasn't moved for almost a year. I guess WDS just can't see three folders down.

Oh, and thanks pqaliardo! I guess I WAS looking for WDS and not RIS. Sheesh.

Thanks,

Joe B
