riptide combo card for hp pc

I have installed W2K on my hp machine, which has a riptide combo card, my sound works properly, but the system does not detect the modem, I tried updating the driver available for w2k, but still the problem exist,
"There is some error during setup, setup is aborted" is the message i'm getting during the modem installation.
so please help me with the issue, thanks in advance

Are there any clues in the event logs?
Administrative Tools/Event Viewer/ then the logs.
