Ripping Raw Images

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can help out - i want to create a raw disk image of various CDs. The 'raw' command seems to bind to the cdrom okay but am wondering (if this is the correct first step) what the next step would be. The 'dd' command is noted on

as being able to move data to and from raw devices, but I can't seem to be able to get this to work. (dd count=512 if=/dev/raw/raw1 returns reading raw1 - input/output error, where /dev/cdrom is bound to raw1)

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
