Does the Norstar CICS or MICS offer a ringing line preference? I know different systems call this by different names. What I mean is when a call rings in, that line is selected automatically when one goes offhook, without having to press a button.
If a line is programmed to ring at a phone it will pick up the one that has been ringing the longest, without pressing a button. That is the extent of it.
I could find no reference to any incoming line preference in MICS or CICS docs. Avaya describes this feature in its docs as do many other systems' docs, but I found nada in Norstar.
ringing line preference is always on. There is no way to turn it off. If you wish to select a different line or intercom other than the one that is ringing you must select it BEFORE you lift the handset.
anyway this can be circumvented? I have a MICS 4.0 system where all phones are ringing yet will not answer the call unless you push a button. When you pick up it says no line selected as it is trying to access a line out with no regard to the incoming ringing call.
This is what the customer is reporting... assuming it's accurate.
could be bad info...
Sounds like bad info. I bet it is a bunch a phones in close proximity, and the customer just cant tell that a particular phone in NOT ringing...but thinks it is. You would just have to confirm the ringing lines for the DN in programming.
I would like to know that one too- I have been teaching my customers for years- if your phone rings just pick up the handset. I don't care if it appears, if it's a line, intercom, Ans DN, Hunt Group.
Are you talking about trunk ringing in? You program it under line access, ringing or not. If a line rings at an extension, whichever DN picks it up first will sieze the line - "if it rings, pick it up." If you don't want a particular DN to pick up a line by accident, don't have that line ring there. They can still answer the line by pressing the line key, but it won't happen automatically. Grant line access, but "No Ring"
