Hi,

I'm running a Merlin Magix with an Intuity voicemail system, and Legend MLX phones (mostly MLX-10DP's), with an auto-attendant programmed. I want to add an extension (not a physical phone), which when entered into the auto-attendant, will ring on some set of phones. This is primarily to give the best chance for one of us calling in after hours to reach anyone still in the building.

Using a night mode wouldn't be feasible, since we dont have a clear distinction between night and day. This Avaya Product FAQ:
seems like it might be a solution. It seems to say I would set up a Coverage Group consisting of the new "virtual" extension (the "sender"), and set up a Calling Group consisting of all the extensions that would ring (the "receiver" when the virtual extension is entered in the auto-attendant.

Is this what I want to do?

Kurt

Depending on the version of Magix - there is a "Group Ring" hunt type option you can select for a Cover Group. So, pick an unused Group Number, enter the extentions you want to ring as members, set the hunt type to "group ring", and group type to autologin. Set the selctor code in the AA to transfer to this Group. When the transfer occurs - all the phones in the group will ring at once - until someone answers - or the caller hangs up.

I have Magic 4.0. I had started looking at the method used in the link, and couldnt get it to work till I set Hunt Type as Group Ring. Autologin I already knew about.

You seem to be suggesting a slightly different way of setting up. I'm not sure if what I'm doing is the same, or even good practice. I've done the following to get extension 197 (which does not physically exist) to ring on a bunch of extensions. I've defined extension 197 in both Intuity and in SPM, and defined extension 775 in Intuity but defined 775 as a Calling Group in SPM, with the extensions I want to ring. Then I define Cover Group 29 with 197 as the sender extension, and in Group Calling set Group Coverage for extension 775 to cover group 29.

Do you see anything wrong with what I've done? Thanks for your help!

Well - if it works - leave it alone. But it seems like you have extra steps that are not really necessary. Since 775 is described in both SPM and Intuity. All you need to do is have the Intuity transfer the call to 775 (instead of 197) - and all group member phones will ring. You really don't need 197 anymore - or the extra cover group 29 or the coverage for 29 by 775. When you set up 775 in both the Intuity and SPM - you did what I initially suggested. If you want to use 197 as the "virtual" extention/group - you could just renumber the Calling Group 775 in SPM (mentioned above) to 197. Of course you would have to renumber the existing extention 197 number to something else first - to free up that number.

When you say have the Intuity transfer the call to 775 instead of 197, I assume you mean transfer from the auto-attendant menu as in "Press 3 to ring all phones". I don't want to actually do it this wayI also can't use the group 775 directly, since this is primarily for use by someone dialing from outside into the auto-attendant and entering the extension number, where extensions are limited to 1xx. So I need to use an extension number like 197.

If I wanted to try to simplify it as you describe, it sounds like I'd get rid of extension 197 and cover group 29, then renumber Calling Group 775 to 197.

I'll probably leave it as is till I have a slow day to fool around with it.

Thanks, you've been a big help.

Ok - I thought it was done via selector code in AA. Yes you could renumber 775 to 197 - and it should work - after first freeing up the 197 extention number.
