Ring Delay

Is there anything I can do to eliminate the ring delay that occurs thru a digital gateway? I am using M and T series phones thru a digital gateway to a UCX50. I have two analog lines and 6 sets. All incoming calls have a two ring delay (presumably to let caller ID info thru). This is only on external calls.

Do you mean an FXO gateway for the analog trunks? You don't connect trunks to the digital gateway. You can put an analog card into the UCx or use an external gateway like a Grandstream or Mediatrix. The problem is if you want caller ID info, you have to wait until the second ring starts to answer so the CO can send in the CID info during the idle period between the first and second ring. If you don't care about the CID info, read your gateway manual and look for how to configure it t answer immediately.

The digital gateway id for the Nortel phones. The analog lines are connected to the UCx via internal analog card. I do understand the need to wait for CID but I would prefer to have them ring as soon as the call comes in. possibly there is a delay in sending the ring signal from the UCx thru the gateway to the phones.

Do you have fax detect enabled on your inbound route?
I have a remote digital gateway about 30 miles from the UCX, and my T7316 rings immediately on a sip trunk without fax detect. With fax detect it takes about 5 seconds before the phone will ring. Don't have an analog trunk to test.

The following is from ucxguy:

The delay in handling of incoming calls... With analog trunks, the system is configured to wait for caller ID for up to 8 seconds and then continue - that could be the first two rings. If you don't have caller ID on your trunks, you should disable this feature by changing the value usecallerid=yes to usecallerid=no in the configuration file chan_dahdi.conf (that's the same file where you can set rxgain and txgain).
