hi,
3300 cluster , sw 8.0 ur3

we are trialing a new voip circuit from our telecomss provider.
they have asked me to change the Digits Before Outpulsing in the route list assignment to a maximun of 20 to allow for international calling. This works fine but there seems to be a long delay after the final digit is dialled. I change it back to 4 digits there is no delay but you gotta be really quick to get the call off or the call fails. Im a little lost .tks.

try setting the value to UNKNOWN. When a value is set there is a delay waiting for the maximum digits to be dialed.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

After setting to unknown, then check the COS for your sets. I believe the option "Interdigit timer" determines how long the system will wait for more digits until it processes the digits you entered.

We keep our interdigit timer set to a maximum of 5 seconds because our legal dept., in their infinite and all-knowing wisdom, forced us to allow both 911 and 9-911 which of course created huge problems with accidental misdials (because we dial 9+ for all local calls).

To get around the misdial problem we programmed 10 system speed dial entries of 911x (where x=0 thru 9, inclusive) then sent those to a voice mail menu tree to intercept the call, explain to the caller that it appears they have accidentally dialled 911, but if they do need police, fire or ambulance to press 1 whereupon the system would outpulse 911#.

Next we used 911 + unknown digits to follow in the ARS table and used the interdigit timer (set to 5 secs) to wait for more digits but to release the call to the pSAP if no other digits were dialled.

Don't scueeze the interdigit timer any tighter than 5 secs though as this is the same timer that bites you when you start dialing then have to look away to look at the number again because you forgot it. Thus the interdigit timer can be a double-edged sword. Set it too long and users will bitch. Set it too short and users will also bitch. 5 secs seems just about perfect.

MIMB... that seems like a lot of hoops to jump through considering 911 is only used for local emergency...we simply changed our outside dial number to 8. That took care of all the calls from the Emergency Operations Center asking if someone needed assistance because the user simply hung up when they realized their mistake. We still allow 911 and 9-911 but we don't worry about misdials anymore.

Someone before had posted a 911 mis-dial trap using ARS. Basically, 911+x is sent to a route that excludes all CORs, and 911+unknown to follow is sent to a legit route. Again, the interdigit timer is put into play.

In some of the bigger (read busier) cities, 911 services can, and sometimes do, charge a fee for non-emergency calls.

Kuduos to the creativity of the mis-dial recording, but personally, I would rather hear a fast busy when mis-dialing 911. I get instant negative feedback, rather than thinking that my call has been answered by 911 services and not really listening to the rest of the message because I am in a panic/emergency situation.
