i have a requirement of ringing a group of extensions at the same time but i don't know how... here's the situation...
callers from outside are programmed to be answered by the vm/aa then after dialing "0" or by not dialing anything callers then will be directed to a calling group...the problem is that it will ring only one member extension of the calling group...i want to ring all member extensions...
anybody?

I beleive that the only way that can happen is on the new Magix release. But I could be wrong.

The R3 Magix has a group ring hunt that will ring all the extensions logged in to the calling group at once. If you do not have an R3 magix, you could use coverage or SSA to try a solution. Use could use an adjunct extension as an operator and assign primary coverage buttons to extensions. The limitation here is 8 phones. The other solution is SSA, then again, you would be assigning multiple buttons for all the line apperances on the phones.

The Magix R3 can ring a group of phones. They are put into a calling group and the hunt type is group ring. The dial zero destination in the VM would be the group's ext number

WIthout the Magix R3 solution, there is always the old "LOOP AROUND" where you make lines out of T&R Extensions.

Not pretty, but it does work, and it eliminates the 8 station coverage issue.

Well here's my solution when you don't have R3. It maybe a little silly, but it makes the customer happy. I've posted this in 2 other threads before. Here it is...

This really is if you plan on having 1 group. Well, you can do it with more if you have more than 1 attendant. Here is the info I gave to someone else on this board...

You'll have to do things in reverse.

1. Set up the night service so that the DLC and the ext's of the cordless phones and any others are in there.
2. Assign your lines to the night service as well.
3. Make sure all your lines are assigned to the DLC properly.
4. Set the DLC ext. as Principal User of all the lines.
5. Assign your night service button on the DLC, but label it "DAY". And then tell the customer to leave the button lit during the day, like a day mode.
6. Put a DND button on the DLC and label it night.
7. Make sure DLC is cover group 30.
8. Set the cover delay for the DLC to whatever you want it be if they don't answer the phone.
9. Don't assign a Mailbox to the DLC ext. Assign the ext. a box, but as a auto attendant.

And there you go. The system is really in night mode all the day with the night ring set up for a group of ext.'s.

If there is DID's involved, you have to the night ring a little different. You'll have to set up the NS to ring to a calling group rather than ext.'s and set up a group as group ring (Ver. 3 only) and put the ext's you want to ring in as the members and set it as auto login.

Merlinman:

Can you elaborate exactly what you mean you when talk about looping T/R ports to a TRUNK ports to achieve this. What's the necessary programming, and how will it end up working?

Thanks!

You would connect an t/r extension to a trunk port, then assign the trunk to various extensions. Whenever you ring the t/r port, it would ring all the extensions that have the trunk assigned to it. All you would need is extensions-->lines/trunks-->and assign the line to various extensions.

The Extension (T&R) used for this could be the member (or if more than 1, MEMBERS) of a calling group.

i am amazed by your many tips...tks a lot...
1. the r3 upgrade cannot be done
2. the loop around is not possible coz i dont have enough vacant line channels
3. i used the coverage instead and it was working fine...

tks again to all af you and merry x-mas...

killbox,

I would like to discuss with you in more detail (if you don't mind), about the Night Service Function.

Currently, I am in that boat with an office I support. The office has a Legend 7.0, which doesn't support "group ring."

The managers there, had me setup the auto attendant to answer all calls, and route them accordingly. However, now (after about 3+ hours of getting the auto attendant up and running), he wants me to put things back the way they were. because he wants all phones to ring when a caller hits "0."

I was reading this posting, and you had an interesting idea. But, since I am pretty new to Legend, I was wondering a few things.

First, by "DLC," that is the direct line console (or in my case, extension 10)? Second, if extension 10 was in "Night Mode," I could add all 40 of my extensions into a group that would ring when a call is transferred to extension 10? Thrid, would this setup change the way my AA1 is setup? I currently have calling group (771), which overflows immidately to group 770. Then, my Merlin Messaging 3 system has a mailbox 771 defined in it, which answers the phone. Would anything like that change?

Thanks for all your help.

Well, I'm assuming that 770 is your VM hunt group. No, nothing would be affected. The only thing that works different is that during the day, you have the night button on (So you label it "DAY") and at night you turn off the day and press the "NIGHT" button (which is really a DND button). Just make sure you make the operator principal user of all those lines and to do this, the operator has to have all the lines on the phone.

So with this set up, your day auto attendant greeting is in the night and the night greeting is in the day. Routing things to VM doesn't change.

I've given this solution to a number of my customers before they came out with the group ring and I've shown this to a number of technicians I've had working for me, and it works well.

Great... I will give it a try. Just a few more small questions, then....

If I had my 40 or so extensions in the night group, they would all ring when a call is transferred to extension 10?

And, if I have the auto attended set to follow the "schedule mode," and not the "switch mode," then the day/night mode of extension 10 would not affect which greeting is played by the auto attendant, since it would use the programmed schedule?

And, one other thought, too...

If all of these exensions are in the night group togehter, that won't affect the way the extensions operate now, does it? In the respect to calls being transferred to an extsion, it will only ring on that extension, and not everyone in the group? Since all of my phones ring immidately on inbound calls, I will have to set them all to "delay ring." But, with this setup your talking about... anything that is transferred to extension 10, would ring immidately on everyone's phone in the group?

Sorry for all the stupid questions, but before I start making major changes on this system, I want to make sure I understand the outcome of it.

Thanks again.

Ok, only lines that are set to night service and set to principal user on ext. will ring on the group ring. So only calls that come in on a line, like a DID or a pots line will ring the night service. It's a solution for incoming calls get answered by a group instead of a operator or by an auto attendant. And this solution doesn't affect any normal operations at all.

If the system is set on the schedule controller so that the auto attendant is picking up immediatly and the VM controls the greetings by date and time, that's a different scenario. This is for when calls ring directly in.

If you're looking for a dial 0 option off the auto attendant on a legend, you'll have to have to do the old virtual ext. and put cover buttons or shared system access buttons of it. Or the old loop around with a analog port to a trunk port and put that trunk port on everyones phone. If you have a 012 card, it real easy.
