Three servers, a 2k3 Domain controller, a 2k3 providing Terminal Services in the Administrative mode, and an older W2k server providing Terminal Services in the Administrative mode (we're in the process of upgrading everything).
When I try to install programs on the new 2k3 Terminal Services Machine from the 2k3 domain controller, I get the "Access denied" message. Yet I can install programs in this manner to the older W2k machine, or to any of the 30 workstations.

Obviously, I'm missing something here. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible that I'm seeing a "feature" of Terminal Services in 2k3?

Any suggestions?

2 thoughts. First, are you trying to install from an RDP session as apposed to installing at console? i have seen some software not want to install from an RDP session and must be installed at console. Second, are you putting the TS in install mode or installing via control panel add/remove programs? The TS should tell you it needs to be in install mode or sometimes it will do it for you when trying to install software. If you are not putting the TS in install mode before you install sometimes it balks.

Tried installing from a RDP session and from the console.

Attempted to install by running the approproiate Setup program from the DC.

Dumb question, how do you put the TS in "Install mode"?

You can go into control panel add/remove programs click install program or you can open a command prompt use the following command:

C:\>change user /install
User session is ready to install applications.

when finished with the install:
C:\>change user /execute
User session is ready to execute applications.

you can do this people logged on, ive never had an issue with it.

OK, I found how to use the Install Mode, and will try it when on-site tomorrow.

All the information I can find refers to the install mode for TS as an Application server. Does it also apply for TS in Administrative mode?
