Hi group,

I am very new to Photoshop and need some direction. I have a photo that I would love to fix. 3/4 of the photo appear normal and the colors are descent. However, 1/4 of the right side is real heavily saturated with RED. I am sure it has to do with the film or something.

I created a layer with just the 1/4 image that is messed up. After doing that, I have played with AutoColor, levels, saturations, hues, and just about everyting else i can find. If i take out the red, then the image looks like crap!

Can anyone point me in a direction that could show me how to fix this problem? It seems as if I could take the colors from the rest of the picture and drop them in this layer but how?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You will want to make a selection of the area that is heavily saturated with the red color and then do the levels and hue/saturation with that section of the image selected.

Once you do make a good selection I would suggest that you save the selection by going up to SELECT > SAVE SELECTION that way you can retreive the selection easily enough if you lose it or if you decide that you need to touch the selction marquee up by using channels or quick mask.

I would think that using levels would be your best bet to do this? Do you know how to use levels and what the sliders mean?

Hope this helps!

HI SpyderIx,

Yes, i do know the sliders. I have been trying to use them but seem to be making a bigger mess than what is there already. :)

The red is real heavy on the right edge then fades to about 1/4 of the way across the picture. I use the marquee tool to select an area then use the hue/sat sliders. in order to get the darkest red out, other items to green or blue. So, i am going to try to work within a very small area. Looks like this is going to take some time.

Since i am so new at photoshop, i wasnt sure i was doing this correctly. However, based on your expertise in the forum, it looks like i am.

Thanks for your help and all the help you provide this forum.

Try using Variations in that level and adding some other colors into the mix to even out the redness. Then use levels to get it evened up to match the rest of the photo. Go to Image -> Adjust -> Variations and try adding one click of green and one click of cyan. This usually does a lot to tone down red in an image. Then choose red from the dropdown in levels, and work with the slider bars to get it more where you need it. Hope this helps!
