hi guys,

I'm having this problem for almost a week aready. Windows explorer doesn't seem to respond everytime i right-click on files with extension other than 'exe'. When i tried to delete them or double-click to open, it'll take ages before it finally executes it. Also, same situation when i tried to right-click or access the files from start menu > my recent documents.

I've looked into thread by quemquiseres (thread779-764870) and tried almost every suggested methods but to no avail. I'm not using PGP, tried the reg clean, context menu clean-up with uninstall / installing relevant programs, running / stopping services,etc... CPU usage was very low indeed when the lock-up happens.

I'm using XP pro with SP1, P4 2.8 GHz, 1G RAM, 120 GB HD. I'm exhausted and out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated indeed!

First I would download one of the following pieces of free spyware programs and scan the system. Spyware programs: Spybot, Pest Partol, Cwshedder, Adaware. The spyware programs can slow you system down. Check start items to make sure there aren't thing running you don't need. Clean all cookies and cache files.

Thanks mrfixit. I've tried running some of the spywares that you suggested, and even tried the online trojan and worm scanners. Everything seems normal, except that the problem doesn't go off. what should i do next??
