hi guys,

anybody know how to get rid of the print option when you right click on ie? the reason i want to do this is that i never print direct from the browser using right click-print. Also when all i want is to do right click-refresh, i sometimes miss and hit right click-print instead, which freezes my pc for several seconds to connect to my network computer before i can click cancel.

any ideas?

I think I've got it, but haven't fully tested yet. It is also possible that this may have implications in Windows Explorer, so make sure you note exactly what's here in the event that something isn't as expected. Essentially these steps will edit the appropriate keys in the registry, so if you backup the registry before you start, you should be able to restore the entire registry if something goes wrong.

There are several things that need to be edited depending on the file type. I suggest that you start with only 1 then test it for that one. For example, the file type 'html'. The specifics below are for XP, so you may need to adjust for your OS:

Open Windows explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab. Scroll down to the extension HTML and click. Then hit the advanced button, remove the action print and printto. Because you are essentially editing the registry, you will need to reboot before testing.

Now, using IE, open an HTML document (not htm, not any of the other files that open with IE). See if your right click print is missing. If it is missing, open an HTM file, I believe the print command will still be in the context menu. If all the above is correct, you will have to go back to the file types tab and remove the 'print' and 'printto' actions for all files that open with IE.

I tried doing this with win2k. so far no luck. I must have skipped something. I'll try to do it again. Thanks for the suggestion!
