Several installations of XP with varying histories( software packages, service pack levels, office versions, etc.) are all showing this same symptom... When a file or shortcut is right clicked and has it's properties window requested it takes anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds for it to display the properties window... I've seen this happen with brand new installations of XP that are completely virgin. Anyone have any idea what causes this???

I've tried turning off the Paging File as some posts have said might work, as well as cleaning up temp folders, removing desktop icons, logging in workstation only, and a myriad of other things... nothing seems to help. The only major item in common with all the boxes is the Novell client (4.83 and 4.9).

First, enable the pageing files. They are absolutely necessary.

. Disable active scanning by your Anti-virus program and test. Some antivirus programs are frequently blamed for the slowness of the context menu. McAfee is often mentioned.

. For mysterious reasons the number of fonts you have installed has a direct effect on the speed of your context menus. Use Extensis or Adobe Type Manager to "briefcase" your fonts to reduce the number of active fonts.

. Many have reported the issue disappears with a registry clean and a reboot. Two users were pleased using RegVac in Novice Mode:
. Clean up Send To entries. In C:\Documents and Settings\username\Send To check for outdated shortcuts or links.
It is generally not a good idea to have a shortcut to a Remote share as a Sent To shortcut.

. Be careful of software that creates Context Menu entries. A Context Menu Editor and Pruner:
. GoBack if installed causes a noticable pause.

. Last, but not least this article written in an XP Context is the most important first step:

This mentions right-click slowness too.
