I have a Ricoh IS430+ scanner which used to work but since i've re-installed it just sits there flashing its lights at me as though jammed. I have tried various different drivers but none work so i think it may be hardware, although everything is in the right place inside and there aren't any jams i can see. Does anyone know of this problem, or even know of a place where i can get a copy of the manual, which(typically)i cant find!

Not familiar with that scanner but... What interface does it have? SCSI, USB, Parallel port, and what operating system are you installing it under? Are you sure the drivers are the correct ones for your op system?

Its a SCSI interface on Windows 98 & the drivers are the ones from the Ricoh website for 98,but strangely their for 98 & ME which seemed a bit wierd to me @the time!

Well ME is the next op system along the line from W98, so it's not surprising that the drivers may be similar.

As you're using a SCSI interface, you should see the SCSI BIOS message(s) on screen after POST and prior to Windows 98 starting up. This should show the type of SCSI adaptor you're using, and also the scanner's SCSI ID together with a brief description of the recognised device.

In W98, go into Control Panel and under the System icon select Device Manager tab, and check that your relevant SCSI adaptor is installed correctly under "SCSI Controllers".

You mentioned earlier that ".. since I've reinstalled it...", so have you completely reinstalled W98? Or what is the story behind this? (This might give us further clues as to what is going wrong).

Does the scanner programme you use recognise the scanner, or does it just say it's "not there"?

Its OK you can forget about this one now, its working again somehow! all i did was restart & the lights stopped flashing but my scanning program was saying there was a problem with the SCSI, so i removed it, restarted the PC & Windows picked it up, then it was working fine!
Cheers anyway!

Might be that it wants the scanner turned on before you start the PC...
