I purchased the laptop back in June 09 with Vista Home Ed 64bit. The card reader WOULD READ ANY SD card. Then all the sudden it stopped working.

If I insert the card, the OS detects there was something inserted into the reader. A icon for the device appears in My Computer. After 2-3 minutes I get a msg that says the device needs formatted. If I attempt to format, it fails. If I attempt to access the device via Explorer, it fails and asks me to insert a device into f:\. If I try to view it in Disk Management, it never opens, unless I remove the SD card.

I have tried several SD cards. They all do the same thing.

I have done the following to get it to work;

1. Updated drivers from Dell
2. Called Dell tech support and they claim it was an OS issue. So I reformatted and reinstalled Vista. Still didn't work. I then upgraded to Win7 Home Ed 64bit and it doesn't work.

I have searched all over online for a resolve but cant find one.

Any ideas?

Chances are the device just plain broke. If it's REALLY important I'm sure Dell can replace it, but there's so many cheap USB card-readers today it would be easier to just go that route.
