RichtextBox internal format

I have been trying to find a source for the codes i.e. \b \fs etc that are embedded in the richtextbox text. I would like to do some things that aren't documented (at least that I know of) I.E I would like to set the background color within the text as opposed to setting the foreground color with Selcolor. I brought up a blank word document and wrote text involving all the features I wanted saved it in RTF format and then brought up that RTF file in notepad to find out what the codes were. I couldn't figure out the codes.

 
I believe RTF is up to version 1.9 now:
But be careful. The VB RTB is coded to support v1.0 of the underlying Rich Edit control, which does not (officially) support the full set of current RTF features.

To be honest, using the TOM (Text Object Model) interface to the control is often easier ...
