rich text editing

does anyone know of a decent, FREE, easy to use rich text editor?

i need a good one for this project im working on. i would create one myself, but it seems more complicated than i had expected it to be.

id really like to find one that is easily customizable, meaning i can go into the code and delete certain buttons and features without screwing up the rest of the code. i dont really need my users to do all kinds of crazy html formatting, i just need them to bold, hyperlink, align, insert horizontal rules, maybe insert images, etc.
