Hi,
I am installing RHEL 4 to make this server as FTP server for our external vendor. The server installation is on progress. I am very new to this Linux environment.
We need to configure Oracle client on top. How can I install Oracle Client 9i on linux. Is that available in Internet ?

Just a basic question, while installing RHEL 4 I chose auto partition. After installation complete, can I create manually desired partitions ? We want also them to be configured in RAID.

Regards,
Sam

You can get Oracle Client from Oracle 10g express edition.
Instructions on intalling it are on Oracle web site

To answer your other questions, auto partition creates partitions that cannot be modified after unless yo use a partition resizer tool.

I suggest you create all necessary partitions manually, including the ones you will make part of the raid in future (or at install time).
I don't like disk druid so I normally create raid partitions and use mdadm to make them part of the raid after installation is completed.

If I could have sex each time I reboot my server, I would definitely prefer Windoz over Linux!

Thanks QatQat,

Do you know any cookbook or handy document which will help me to create all supporting partition manually ? I am not familair with the manual partition process and the type of file system what I have to choose.
We are using IBM server. So will need proper RAID plan.
If I get some good document, that would be great. We were installing this autopartition Linux installation on one Virtual ( Vmware) machine.

After the test, we will start the actual activity on IBM hardware with RHEL 4.

The installation is still going on. I don't why the 3rd CD is running since very long, where as it's saying Remaining Time 6 minutes. ( And installing gnome applets for GNOME panel).

Regards,
Sam

Well,

what kind of raid have you got on the IBM?
If you want to configure a software raid you must look into mdadm.

If instead you server has a hardware raid facility, then you must configure your raid before installinf RH. The raid device will in that case be transparent to linux.

Very good reading concerning partitions is at

Easy to follow tutorials about mdadm and partitioning for software raid are at
