RHAS3, Apache 1.23.29, PHP 4.3.10 (dso), Mysql 4.1.9 MAX.

I have doublechecked that there are no other versions of mysql or clientlibs on the box. I have doublechecked that PEAR DB.php is in the php.ini include path. I have checked permissions on files. I have checked that my account is correct to sign into mysql.

BUT STILL when I try a simple PEAR::DB connect to mysql, I get back "DB Error: connect failed"

Wits end, help appreciated. Will post to PHP thread also.

In looking further, I find no evidence of libmysqlclient.*.so.* anywhere on this system. Would php compile ok without these and then need them to actually run properly for DB connects? If yes, where are the mysql-max 4.1.9 libmysqlclient files?

After resintalling mysql to include the client libs, I still could access - php reported a socket access error.

Stupidly I had the wrong perms on the /var/lib/mysql directory. As a consequence, the mysql user could read from the folder but the Apache 'www' user could not. This obstructed access to the mysql.socket file. I reinstalled almost everything to valid I wasn't messed up elsewhere.

Glad I spent a day on that. :-(
