I'm creating a Ghost Image of a Red Hat 9 Linux computer. I successfully installed/configured RH9, then went through the proper motions to create a Ghost image.

I then pushed the image back down to a test computer (actually the same physical computer the image was created on with a different hard drive). The image appeared to apply correctly, but upon booting the process hangs immediately after the POST.

Specifically:

Verifying DMI Pool Data

GRUB _

and those 2 lines are it.

Any ideas?

Note: I'm cross-posting this under Linux Servers and Linux Clients forums.

Thanks

Sounds like the stage 2 GRUB loader is either missing or corrupted.

I ran into this a while back and was able to "fix" it by building a grub boot floppy and reinstalling grub to the MBR.

while this wont help fix the overall ghost restore, it will help you figure out if the ghost image is otherwise ok.

I would boot from a boot floppy, or from the Red Hat CD and enter into rescue mode. From there, I would try to re-install GRUB.

fdisk /mbr
grub-install

...nevermind that fdisk command, I think it only works in DOS. The /sbin/grub-install command alone should wipe out the MBR and reinstall GRUB.

I had the same error.

According to the Symantic Knowledge Base compatability chart( search term "linux"), Ghost 8 is the only version of Ghost that is supported to backup Red Hat 9.

I ugraded my Ghost and I was successful.
