I jsut replaced the motherboard and processor in my Linux RH7 system. I went from a PIII 800 with an intel 815 chipset to a P4 with a 845 chipset. I am having issues getting the onblard NIC to work, and the save option and terminal in Xwindows crashes constantly. Is there anything I can do besides a reload to fix this? I cannot loose any of the info on the system. James Collins

Which CPU were you using and which did you replace it with? Check the /proc/cpuinfo and /proc/meminfo files and make sure that its reporting the correct settings.

I went from a PIII 800 to a P4 1.8Gig. I will check it Monday when I get back to work. Anything else to try? James Collins

Did you check the linux hw compat. list over at RH?
Also going out to the chipset manufacturers site, memory
manufacturers site and doing a google search are always
good ideas. It's rare that people here are going to be
using your exact hardware.

Thanks for the help. I understand users here may not be using the same hardware. My question is more general. I just want to know if anyone has had similar issues when upgrading. James Collins

No, I've swapped out all components in a case except power
and master hard drive and all there was todo is replace the old drivers with the drivers for the new gear.

In general though there will always be tweaks to do when changing over like this.
What's the chipset for your onboard nic?
Did you rerun xf86config or at least rewrite the video
board portion of XF86Config?

Well after some TS I have narrowed the issue down to a NIC. The NIC is onblard and I vcannot find any drivers for this at Intels site. The chipset is 845 for the P4 1.8gig PC's. I installed an older 3com and it appears to work fine. Thanks for the assistance. It is much apreciated. James Collins
