I cannot telnet or ftp to a Red Hat 7.2 server I just set up. I am unfamiliar with 7.2. In RH7 i can delete the /etc/securetty and remove the root in /etc/ftpusers and I have access. In 7.2 this does not work. Anyone have any sueggestions? James Collins

I'm not running an ftp server on a 7.2 box, but as for telnet, did you change disable = yes to disable = no in /etc/xinetd.d/telnet? Matt

redhat 7.1 ftp,telnet setup

1.
/etc/xinetd.d
telnet
wu-ftpd
change
disabled = yes
to
disabled = no

2.check firewall to enable it

run utility setup to change the firewall configuration

it is a bad idea to open telnet and ftp all the time, it is very dangours

We have a software package that connects to a Linux server vi a telnet script. We normally use RH7. Our new servers are not supported by RH7. We have to use RH7.2. So we have to access the system via telnet.

"2.check firewall to enable it" Where do I do that. I am not too familiar with Linux so please be patient with me.

type "setup" in the terminal, there should be a menu with firewall setup, then go to the customize and enable the ftp and telnet.

good luck

Thanks sniffle. That did the trick. Setting the firewall to none fixed my issue. James Collins
