When I connect to my Linux server from a terminal emulation program (tinyterm, facetwin, etc.) the colors of the text will change colors. For example, if I type 'ls -l' it will list everything, but change the color of the text. Sometimes the text will be blue, yellow, and worst of all black. In order to restore order, I have to run my acctg software, then escape back to a shell prompt. Any suggestions?

If I'm at the console everything is ok...

Not sure of your clientside platform, but it sounds like broken escape code interpretation. Try modifying the PS1 value on the remote (edit ~/.environment, ~/.profile, whatever). Make sure PS1 value ends with:
Code:
\033[0m\]
That tells the terminal to reset the text color to a default value. This way, no matter what kind of output a program dumps to your terminal, it will finish up by resetting the color. --
