I am trying to install RH 7.2 on a formatted HD that does not support booting from CD. I have managed to make a boot floppy that gets me to the install menu (normal, text, expert, etc) but cannot get past it. I am very newbie to Linux and from what I've read I think I'm supposed to copy the VMLINUZ to another floppy for the next step of the install. Is this right? If so, how do you do it? If not, how can I get the installation to continue from the CD?
Thanks for any help! Matt Wray

What happens when you select 'normal' installation? Does it ask to insert the CD?

Well if u have prepared ur bootdisks than u an install linux very well.once u get to the iinstalltion menu just type the type of installtion u want and then when it asks for the location of the files click on local cdrom...and there u are. if it gives any other error this means that there is a problem with your cdrom..otherwise it should work fine

When I choose "normal" install, it says loading, then fails. It says please change the disk. It doesn't give me a choice for a path. My CDrom is good, and I am able to browse the directories in DOS. The RH manual states with a boot disk you also need a root disk. I don't know if maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I can't figure out how to make the root disk. this is the manual I've been reading... Well, I've made some progress, but still can't get it. I was able to start the install from the dosutils directory with the autoboot.bat. I get a blue screen with starting anaconda across the bottom. It then detects my hardware and that's when it stops. It lists the video, monitor and mouse then I get signal out of range on my monitor and the CDrom stops running. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I have used this CD before for a successful RH install. Matt Wray

Now I'm reciveing a runtime error: display failed Tis is an former Compaq machine with a new HD, but the MOBO is still the same. It has onboard sound and video, could this be the cause of my woes? Matt Wray

Start the installation from the autoboot.bat script on the CD and do the installation in text mode. Just enter 'text' at the 'boot:' prompt. This is documented in the link you provided above.
