Linuxites;

This server was running well for quite some time. Last week I used up2date to apply the latest patches/fixes and since then I cannot get my Xserver to start. My question is:

How can one RESTORE the Xserver components to a fresh install condition? I've already booted from the distro CDROM and selected Update an Existing system - selected ONLY the Xwindow system. It completed normally but after a reboot - same old thing.

The problem is that the Xserver is apparently trying various configs because the console screen looks like compressed gibberish then goes blank. It keeps this up forever.

Any ideas? Recommendation?

Thanks.

Try running "xf86config" and/or "redhat-config-xfree86" to fix your X display.
